Seminar

The marine mammal seminar runs monthly during term on Thursday afternoons at 4 p.m., in Aldwych Hall and online.

The audience is mixed: graduate students in the master's program, undergraduates from marine biology, faculty, and a reliable contingent from regional agencies and consultancies. Speakers are asked to pitch accordingly — the seminar is a research talk, not a public lecture, but it is not aimed exclusively at specialists either.

Topics across the series typically cover population assessment methodology, acoustic monitoring, behavior and foraging ecology, and the interaction between marine mammal populations and offshore development.

Attendance is not restricted and registration is not required for the in-person sessions. Graduate students in the program are expected to attend and to present at least once during the degree, which is where most of them give their first research talk.

The remote link is circulated on the departmental list. Anyone outside the university who would like to be added to that list should contact the department office.

Talks are not recorded, at the request of speakers presenting unpublished work.
